ZOOMA Summer Challenge Week 1

WOW!  I just love the smell of a new summer challenge!  Luckily, the food challenge this week involved pineapple so it is smelling tropical not like stinky Skippy!  But dang, I got after it!

Let’s get started with Sunday and the 6 mile long run.  The BRF and I met up at 7am and did our best, let’s just saying, we were not pretty! AVG HR 152 11:00 min miles.  The hubby decided I had not sweat enough and we loaded up the golf clubs and hit the course!  14 holes later, I had to scream, Uncle, I had enough! Hot and sweaty again it was time for a nice cold glass of chardonnay.  The summer drink of champions!  No balls lost in 2 hours- AVG HR 93.

Did you see it?  I was the ZOOMA ambassador featured this week!

Monday kicked off with a new yoga class.  I went to the yoga flow class with a new instructor.  We worked on a lot of heart openers and she really enjoyed sharing some essential oils with us. I like it!  60 minutes AVG HR 78.  Tuesday morning came quick with 3 miles and 6 strides on the plan.  I got in a total of 3.2 miles with an AVG HR 102.

The summer challenge has 2 rest days so I planned one for Wednesday.  My daughter is dog sitting near by so she showed up for breakfast and I talked her into walking to Wal-Mart.  So I ended up with 2 walks for 25 minutes each AVG HR 102 and all the extra ingredients I needed to make this yummy pineapple salsa to go with dinner!  Thursday started with 800M repeats.  I ran 800M easy, then 800M at 80%.  Whew, that last 800M was tough!  4 miles AVG HR 151

I am supposed to be trying new classes during this challenge but my sources are a little limited.  I logged on to my Amazon Prime account and found a huge section of exercise videos I could choose!  Friday started off with a video from Shazzy Fitness.  Oh yea, this girl did 30 minutes of cardio hip hop that would have surely embarrassed my mom!  Oh well, it got my AVG HR up to 112 and I had a great time laughing at myself!  I followed with the Level 3 ActivMotion bar workout to work on my core and strength.  AVG HR 93.  I did all 3 sixty-second planks during the workout, so I am pretty excited about that!

Saturday morning I took to the neighborhood to crank out 5 miles.  It is just brutal out!  I can’t buy a breeze and well, it is just HOT!  When your elbows sweat, it is serious business!  AVG Pace 10:40, AVG HR 154

Next week poses a lot of challenges for me.  I have Skippy duty every morning from 7am-11am and we start the AB challenge part of this summer program!  Therefore,  I am going to have to move some runs/workouts to the afternoon or evening and that is NOT my best time!  I will figure it out.  Grand babies first!

  1. I can just imagine myself doing that hip hop class and my kids laughing at me. The challenge is reminding me to the abs everyday which is good for me. Have a great week

  2. Ha! I cannot make my body move (in the right places or directions) for hip hop. I’d totally embarrass myself (even if I was alone with a DVD). Yay for Skippy duty!!!! Enjoy 😉

Congrats on the Zooma ambassador feature! I love that you are trying new workouts during the Zooma challenge – sounds like so much fun!

Right now by biggest summer challenge is getting through marathon training in one piece during this summer heat, lol!

Skippy duty is going to be fun! I can relate to your “can’t buy a breeze” sentiment. That’s exactly how it is here now. Ugh. Yay for being featured!

Cardio Hip Hop! I’m not coordinated enough or cool enough to pull that off! It is good to try new things though. Always, always, grandbabies first!

  6. I haven’t been to yoga in a few weeks (was sick and missing it this week due to vacation). I’ve been trying to do a little at home! I don’t have any challenges this summer but really want to get back into a monthly plank challenge again.

  7. Even though I grew up dancing, I am far from being able to do hip hop without looking like a freak, lol. Trying to follow somebody else’s lead doing hip hop makes me feel very uncoordinated. I wish I were able to better move my body like hip hop dancers can.

  8. What fun, and congrats on being the ambassador of the week! My only challenge this summer is living through the heat and humidity as I (try to) train for two fall marathoners!

    Great job!

I’m just trying to get through summer. Right now, it’s pretty much all we can manage. My elbows are in a constant state of sweat LOL! It’s awful. It will cool down soon, right?

I want to get back into yoga. Badly! My body needs it.

I haven’t done any summer challenges this year, actually. Well, that’s not true. I did a month of squats and planks. But that’s it. nothing really tough. I’ve been focusing on getting myself centered and ready for the real work ahead: marathon training!

  15. Darlene says:

Congrats on being Ambassador of the week!!

Sorry about the heat. I wish I could share our cool temps. Just think about how tough you will be in the fall.

My only summer challenge is trying not to quit my job or kill my boss. LOL

    Thanks for linking up.

The summer drink of champions sounds delish. It’s just plain nasty out when the elbows drip. My summer challenge is staying sane in this heat and humidity. I think I’m failing. Have fun doing Skippy duty next week!

  17. Nice job! I didn’t realize Amazon Prime has fitness videos, I’ll have to check it out! Your pineapple salsa looks so good!
