Weekly Wrap – Gasparilla Run Week

Hello!  This was a very active Gasparilla run week for me as I was preparing for two big events.  This was also my first full week home on my FMLA sick time.  If you stopped by the February runfessions, I runfessed that I have not done much around the house this past week but I sure was busy!  Thanks for stopping by so let’s get to the action!

Sunday on the plan:  3 miles easy.  I went right out before breakfast and got those 3 easy miles in.  32:16 AVG HR 160  It was a pretty day outside so the hubby and I headed to Ridgewood Lakes to play golf.  The goal was to play 18 holes to make sure I was ready for Wednesday.  The play was very slow, I mean very slow so we actually played about 12 holes before we drove back to the clubhouse.  0 Pars 0 Balls lost AVG HR 103

Monday on the plan:  Rest day.  I found a 8 am YIN yoga class so jumped on the chance to take that.  It was a slow flow classes with each pose held longer than a normal class.  It felt great!  60 minutes AVG HR  77.  I finished the morning with a 40 minute walk.  AVG HR 114

Tuesday on the plan:  30 minute cardio plus drills.  I am back to the ActivMotion bar.  I felt much more coordinated this time and I was able to hit all the positions.  Level One video- 30 minutes AVG HR 103  I followed the workout with a 34 minute walk AVG HR 109.  The weather was nice out and my daughter was off from work so I thought a little extra practice at the driving range would not hurt.  We shared a large bucket of balls and swung away!  40 minutes  AVG HR 98

Wednesday on the plan:  Major League Scramble.  It is raining.  The only day this week that was expected to rain and it did.  UGH, change of outfit and I am out the door!  The event was held at Grasslands which is a beautiful course.  A scramble is played with everyone hitting the ball and then the best ball is used.  So it is a team score, no pressure.  Each team starts on a different hole and you move your way thru the course.  I was on a 4 man team with the Orlando Magic and then each team is assigned a Detroit Tiger baseball player that plays as well.   It was a ton of fun!  A couple of my shots were used and the guys I played with were super nice.  The rain stopped after the first hole and we got 15 holes in before it started pouring and they told us all to come in.  The event finished with awards, I won a raffle prize and a dinner.  Super nice event and I hope I get asked to play again next year!  AVG HR 96

This week’s most liked Instagram post – are you following?

Thursday on the plan:  3 mile progression run.  Nailed it!  10:20/10:08/9:48   AVG HR 162

Friday on the plan:  REST  I tagged along with the hubby Thursday afternoon on a business trip to the Streaming Resort.  Beautiful place, very manly.  The guys were up early and out for golf and I decided to check out the 1.7 mile nature walk before I left.  There were plenty of signs up to warn you to look for wildlife but I did not see a thing that morning.  Pretty walk!  42 minutes AVG HR 109

I left Streamsong Resort and drove to downtown Tampa to packet pick for the Gasparilla Run.  It was super easy pick up and our race swag is fantastic!  We have a 6:45am start on Saturday morning so that equals a 4 am wake up time for me!

Saturday on the plan:  Gasparilla Lime Cactus Challenge.  The challenge is to run the 15K on Saturday, turn around and come back and run the 8K on Sunday.  I will save the detail for the race recap but I can tell you I had a blast!  The event hosts 4 runs and had 32,000 registered runners- amazing!!!!  You should add a Gasparilla run to your schedule for 2018!

Make sure you stop by and visit a while with Holly and Tricia, tell them MB sent ya!

Whew!  I was even busier than I remembered!  Maybe I will take it down a notch this week? My next big race I am NOLA bound at the end of March, how about you?

Very busy week for sure Sharon! It is a great feeling when you are playing with the guys and you actually get to use on of your shots! WOO HOO!

  3. That scramble sounds really fun. I think I might get more into golf this year.
Great job on your progression run. I think the only way I’ll be able to do one of those is if I walk the first mile..haha.

I do enjoy my golf game even if I am not that good. There is always that good shot that keeps you going back out 🙂 You do have to start out slow to get that progression run down, it is fun once you get the hang of it!

A Half this weekend and not ready. But I will do my best and train better next time.

That sounds like a great race but it’s not a good weekend for me since I have to work the Friday before. Is the half on Sunday?

  14. I’ve never done back to back races before. Looked like the Gasparilla was an awesome time!
It’s been at least 8 years since I played golf. Still have my set of clubs in the garage but haven’t touched them since I got out of the Navy. The scramble sounded like it was a ton of fun!

    • MB says:

This was my first back to back race and it was fun! I loved the scramble format, no pressure and everyone has a chance to contribute plus playing with the guys isn’t bad either 🙂

  15. Teresa says:

If I were to ever play in a golf tournament, it would definitely be a scramble. I’ve worked a couple of them and they look fun. According to IG, you did have an incredible race weekend …looking forward to the recap.

Have fun in NOLA …but if you’re with Tricia and Tammy, no need to tell you to have fun, it’s just understood! 🙂

  17. I can’t wait to read your Gasparilla recap. I know several people who ran one or more of the Gasparilla races last weekend, and they were all raving about their experience. It sounds like a fantastic race series.

I am glad your Gasparilla Lime Cactus challenge was a success! I definitely would like to run Gasparilla some day. My husband plays in golf tournaments quite a bit so I am quite educated when it comes the rules of a scramble. LOL. They sure do like to give out prizes too! You did have a very busy week. Did it make you wonder how you would have normally fit work into that? Thanks for linking, MB!

    • MB says:

I was wondering the same thing Holly, how did I even work- geez! I am staying pretty busy doing not a whole lot of anything 🙂
