May is my Month- Week Two

May is my month!  This is my mantra this month and I am sticking to it!  Last week I shared my horoscope with you and it pretty much coincides with my message for May in my Erin Condren planner.  Somewhere something incredible is waiting to be known.  Gives me goosebumps thinking about it!  So how did the week of half marathon training go?  Let’s take a peek.

Sunday on the plan:  Sunday started the week off with a BAM!  My BRF and I tackled 11 early miles so we could make time to clean up and go to yoga too.  When your local brewery and favorite yoga instructor decide to team up and host a Sunday class, you know I didn’t miss it!  Run 11 miles 2:10 AVG HR 152  Yoga 60 min AVG HR 96

Monday on the plan:  Never miss a Monday!  Well, if you count taking a rest day then I did not miss a thing!

Tuesday on the plan:  3 miles.  These were not 3 easy miles.  My tummy did not feel good and these were a struggle.  I had the night 5K coming up so I pushed thru it!  35:30  AVG HR 157

Wednesday on the plan:  I still wasn’t feeling 100% but I thought a fun lunch time yoga class might get me moving!  I haven’t taken from this instructor in a while so I enjoyed mixing things up a bit.  She led us thru some great balance poses and lots of side stretching.  60 minutes AVG HR 89

Thursday on the plan:  I felt like I was making a comeback and I was looking forward to my 4 mile tempo run.  I was shooting for a tempo pace of an even 10:00 minutes but I didn’t quit get it.  Next time! 41:22  AVG HR 157

Friday on the plan:  30 minutes of cross training plus drills.  I am still pumped up from the improvement in my golf game so I got that ActivMotion bar right back out and tackled the core workout.  I was able to hit all the advance moves this week so I am pretty happy about that!        45 minutes  AVG HR  103

Saturday on the plan:  Mayfair on the Lake 5K.  First up Skippy and Grumpa did a little babysitting for a few hours to kick off the weekend!  I actually got baby Briar and Grumpa to take a nap at the same time!  Success!

Mayfair by the Lake is a huge weekend long event in Lakeland that has gone on as long as I can remember.  This was my third time to run this 5K.  Although evening runs are not my favorite this event is.  The hubby always has a VIP event that night for the sponsors so it is nice that he can go with me and I get free drinks and snacks when I am finished.  The race started promptly at 7pm and we had exactly one minute of rain.  That’s it!  77 muggy degrees and I took off like a rocket.  This course goes around 2 different lakes, shoots right thru downtown Lakeland and then up and back down a historic neighborhood before you turn around and head back.

I crossed the finish line at 30:29! AVG HR 173  Previous time for Mayfair was 32:23.  Super happy with that progress!  My last mile was my fastest!  I finished 11 out of 45 in my age group and 436 out of the total 1018 runners!  It was great to hear my hubby screaming “run faster Skippy” as I came across the finish line.  He was SO excited to show me the pictures he took.  You know, I wasn’t in a damn one of them.  So here is my pre race selfie, I know which runner I am!  The evening finished off with live music and fireworks!  Just run faster Skippy slept like a rock and woke up early to start celebrating Mother’s day!

How was your week?  Does your hubby get good race photos?  Anyone else take a look at Headspace yet?  More to come!

OMG were our hubbies separate at birth? The “finish line” pic he took of me at my first Chicago Marathon is the back of some guys khakis. I am nowhere in sight. Hilarious. You had a good week! Briar is precious!

  17. Awesome job on your 5k race!! Yes, my hubby takes great finish line pics! Lol and I am thankful too because there were no race photographers at my half last weekend! What the heck??

    • MB says:

Thank you and yes, you are lucky he got a good shot of you! That is weird that at a half there would be no photographer?

  18. Way to go with your 5k! It feels like ages since I’ve raced a 5k…well and any distance really. Race photos are always a funny thing, my husband tries to get some of me as well.

  19. Congrats on the race PR! I should send my hubby to teach your hubby about taking race photos. I have mine trained well. 🙂

Sounds like a great week! Congrats on the 5K course PR! Funny that your husband did not get a pic, hopefully next time. Sometimes taking a video is better. That’s what I have my husband do and I can get hopefully get a good still shot from it. 🙂

Thanks Sharon! and yes, I will have to get him to start using the video mode on his phone, surely he can get me in there some where! LOL!

  21. Congratulations on your race! Running in that kind of humidity is tough but you did a great job! I’m glad that you’re still having a blast this month!

  22. I agree I would do whatever possible to make sure I attended the yoga and beer class!
Your HR is really coming down can you tell a difference? I love reaching smaller goals like you are with your advanced ActivMotion moves! Progress is Awesome!
Your evening run sounds fun and what a great time with all that humidity. Way to go in age group and overall! I’d sure be happy with that!
When I start training for Vegas I’m going to have to do several night runs in preps for it.
Oh I have a tip for ol’ Mark on the picture taking at the finish line! Show him how to video then you can get the still shots you want!

Yes I can tell the difference in my HR, amazing right? Who says you can’t teach an old dog new tricks! LOL! Speaking of old dogs, I will see if Ol’ Mark can learn how to use the video portion and work on his finish line skills, I mean I am not asking for to much am I? Vegas will be a blast!

I always rest on Monday. We rock! I mean, don’t we have to rest anyway? My hubs is not the best pic taker but he is getting better. He takes most of my water skiing shots while driving the boat — and they aren’t bad. He didn’t get my last marathon finish because his phone died (seriously?). Happy Birthday tomorrow. I hope you take full advantage of celebrating the rest of the month. Thanks for linking, MB!

    • MB says:

Rest days are very important! I wondered who was taking those waterski pictures! They always look great! Men have so many phone issues- LOL! Thank you for the birthday wishes- May is my Month! XXOO
