Get Cooking with Blue Apron

This girl has gotta eat!  I mean I am always hungry and after a long day, meal planning is the worst!  I will admit I do not sit down on the weekends and plan out our meals for the week.  Hats off to those of you that can get it done.  My hubby and I are not those people.  He is that man without fail that will text me at 4:00 every day and say, what are we doing for dinner?  Do you ever get those messages?  Drives me nuts!

Last week the hubby and I tried Blue Apron.  There mission is simple- to make incredible home cooking accessible to everyone.  The process was simple.  I simple set up my account and entered my home information.  My delivery options for my area are Wednesday and Saturday.  I then choose my food preferences.  This was very important for me.  We have tried another food service and was not able to do that.  I have an allergy to beef.  I was able to deselect the beef icon from my account.  Next I was shown the menu ready for us for the next four weeks!  I could pick what deliveries I wanted and what deliveries I wanted skipped based on our work/travel schedule.  Love that part!

Roasted Pork and Summer Salsa, Za’atar Chicken Burgers and Oven Fries, Crispy Cod and Summer Squash was on the menu this week and sure did not disappoint!  Each meal comes with a lovely recipe card with step for step directions. All three meals were delivered in this refrigerated box.

All of the box materials are recyclable.  Point number one!

These are all the ingredients for the Chicken Burgers.  I thought this sounded fun to make and I was running Thursday morning so the oven fries where calling my name.  All the ingredients were prepackaged and portioned for exactly what you needed.

I had no problems following the directions and this is my final presentation!  The recipe card even includes a wine pairing, so I added a glass!  The ingredients were super fresh, seasonings were great and the recipe timing was perfect.  I went from box to Blue Apron dinner in 30 minutes with fresh ingredients!

For the two of us, it comes to $9.95 a person per meal.  I think this is reasonable for the quality and convenience.  Again, there in no waste!  That to me is just as important.  If you have ever cleaned out your refrigerator or panty you know how much that hurts to throw away what was once good food that went uneaten.

If you hurry, you can go to Blue Apron and they are running a limited promotion and your first delivery is free!  Yes, I said free! What are you waiting for?  Get cooking, with Blue Apron!

Have you ever tried a meal service before?  Are you a meal planner?  tutus_mb-01

  1. I wish I was better at meal planning! I get those same texts a lot from my hubs. I try to plan for 2 days but sometimes life gets in the way. I’ve tried a few meal boxes and I think they are great for those who like someone else to do the shopping and cooking for them. Having exactly what you need and no waste is a plus for sure!!

No waste is a big point for me- I am tired of having to by a bunch of something when I only need a little 🙂 I swear those text messages drive me crazy! LOL!

  2. I would love to meal plan because I enjoy cooking but i’m by myself for dinner most nights. My friend sent me a coupon for Blue Apron so I did sign up and will get my first box next week. I love seeing what others are getting in their boxes! -M

I enjoy cooking but I don’t like to meal plan and then when I want to try something I am always short an ingredient! I hope you share your box!

I love this idea. I have never tried Blue Apron. This would be something I would do when it’s just me and the hubby. Now, with my two very picky children, I don’t think this would work. As a matter of fact, I usually tell everybody to fend for themselves for dinner because none of us like to eat the same food. It drives me crazy!!

It is a great idea- and I agree probably better for empty nesters and newlyweds 🙂 The food and recipes were great!

  4. I’m a creative queen when it comes to leftovers – cooking for two can be tough and toward the end of the week we have tons of leftovers that you wouldn’t think would work well together. It’s like an episode of Chopped in my kitchen at the end of the week!

  5. I am a meal planner & I have tried out meal services — actually local ones, long before it became so trendy. But that was back while I was still working. I’ve only ever heard good things about Blue Apron.

I usually have some idea of what we’re going to eat, and I tell Mr. Judy the day before when he asks, and of course he asks me again the next day. Drives me nuts too!

It’s a man thing, I swear! I have often thought of setting an alarm on my phone and text him everyday and ask what’s for dinner! LOL

I so wish I was a meal planner, alas I am not. Right now our meal rotation is terribly stale and seat-of-the-pants. This looks awesome!

  7. My hubby is exactly the same way, except it’s 5PM for me, “what are we doing for supper???” One week we may go to the grocery store 4 nights ya know there is no planning two nights in a row!! Other weeks we may grab a bite to eat in town. But one thing is certain I’m not a planner, especially in the summer. It is hard enough to get my family to eat healthy. I have heard of Blue Apron but never really checked into it! After this it’s worth a second look! Thanks MB

  8. I haven’t tried Blue Apron, but I’ve tried similar delivery programs. I really loved it! It got me cooking things I wouldn’t normally cook and it was pretty easy!

It is fairly easy and I feel like I am making a real dish- not just slapping a few things together! 🙂

  9. I never knew you had an allergy to beef! I don’t have an allergy but let’s just say that beef doesn’t like me. Glad to hear you could make sure you didn’t get any beef products.

We’ll be eating fish in Florida anyways…

  11. I have heard great things about Blue Apron and the meals look delicious! With 3 little kids, I have to meal plan – but I can always improve. By the end of the week I am totally ready for something like this. Thanks for this honest feedback! 🙂

I use Green chef and I love it because I don’t have to think about dinner and there is no waste. The convenience is worth it.
