February Fun Weekly Wrap

Who needs a little February fun?  I do!  Valentine’s day is on the way and so is my Gasparilla challenge.  Oh, let’s not forget about my Major League golf scramble!  This month is all about miles, golf balls and more attention to my cross training!

In case you got busy this past week I did post my Celebration Half marathon recap, make sure you check it out!  It was a true celebration rain and all!

So last week we left off on Saturday.  Coach M has mixed up my schedule a little to help get me ready for the Gasparilla challenge that I signed up for.  I will be running a 15K on Saturday and a 8K on Sunday.  I am not usually a back to back runner so this will be something new for me.  This month is full of back to back weekend runs!

Sunday on the plan:  4 miles and 9 holes of golf

I just ran 7 miles on Saturday morning and I was surprised that rolling out of bed Sunday morning to get these 4 miles in was not bad at all.  4 miles  44:20  AVG HR 156   I was back before I knew it and in time to make a proper weekend breakfast.  At my house that means there is bacon involved!

The hubby and I had a tee time at 1:58 pm , that does not mean 2:00 pm, they mean 1:58 pm.  Love it!  We were a little early so I practiced my putting until it was time to tee off.  Any serious golfers out there?  I am not.  It was a beautiful Sunday for golf and I had a great time.  I don’t keep a traditional score.  I count pars and balls lost.  Sunday= 0 pars and 1 ball lost.  Success!  9 holes 2:10 minutes AVG HR 97- that does put me in the fat burning zone.  BONUS!

Monday on the plan:  REST!  I think Coach M might have caught on that Monday and cross training is not a good mix for me.  I may be more of a Monday and happy hour kind of gal.

Tuesday of the plan:  3 X 1600M @ 90%  I love these kind of runs!  10:00/10:13/10:10- I ended up with 4.5 miles  51:30 minutes AVG HR 162

Wednesday on the plan:  REST and yoga  We are up to the third chakra in our series and I am really enjoying it.  The class focused on the solar plexus chakra or manipura- our ability to be confident and in control of our lives.  Our focus was on the upper abdomen which meant a lot of core work!  I could feel that class for 2 days!  60 minutes AVG HR 84

Thursday on the plan:  30 minutes of cardio plus drills  This is the area I have not done so well with.  I have ordered an ActivMotion bar to add to my training but that dang thing is not here yet!  So I took my workout to the streets.  I got a 30 minute walk in before work and did my drill sequence.  AVG HR 94  HMMM, I need to get that higher so I tried it again after work, 30 more minutes of brisk walking, AVG HR 98.  I tried!  ActivMotion bar where are you????

Friday on the plan:  REST- mission accomplished!

Saturday on the plan:  8 miles  My BRF and I met to get in our miles and it was a nice 50 degrees.  AWWW, I think this is really my favorite running temp!  WE ran, we talked, we ran and we hit the bridge, we got it all in!  8.1 miles 1:30 minutes AVG HR 162

I did a quick shirt change in the parking lot and went to pick up my daughter to work the Junior League Mobile food bus.  Hands down my favorite project!  We provided food for 155 families Saturday morning and it was a thankful crowd.  By 11:30 I finally got to sit down to a salad and a smoothie.  It was a busy morning!  22731 Fitbit steps for the day, that makes me smile too!

This week’s most liked Instagram post is compliments of the hubby.  I was just giving me the what for about all the chips he bought at the grocery store when he came walking in with these! #keeper

I know everyone is getting ready for Valentine’s day, remember, you can make any day Valentine’s day, check out my post for ideas! My February fun continues and I have 3 miles to get in today and 9 more holes of golf.  Come back on Tuesday as I share some scoop on the next destination run I have signed up for!

Are you having  a little February fun?  Working on your sweet side for Valentine’s day? I hope your day is full of sweet treats and love!

Please remember to show our hostesses a little love this week!  Thanks Holly and Tricia!

  1. Yes your hubs does sound like a sweetie! Flowers on a day other than VTD is always sweeter. Your race challenge sounds a lot like a Ragnar race without the traveling. I have no doubt you got this. I never did back to back runs to train for Ragnars and it always turned out just fun. Endorphins kick in!

LOL on the 1:58 tee time. I wonder if people are more punctual with an odd time like that? Maybe I should try that for my next work meeting. 🙂 The mobile food bus sounds like a great volunteer opportunity. I like being able to work with people face-to-face.

You do know how to have fun!!

It doesn’t hurt that you don’t live in the snowbelt.

I suck at golf but when I retire, I want to pursue it more. No lost balls = a win!! Love this!!

I’ve always loved going to the golf range to hit balls, but getting on the course is a different story. Funny about the 1:58 tee time. :p Sounds like a good week and the Gasparilla challenge sounds fun! Good luck!

  11. Great week for you MB, I love how Coach M is adding in back to back runs to prepare you for Gasparilla. Since I’ve done a few back to back races in one weekend I always take the first day usually a 5k slow and easy.
I was really scared this would wreak havoc on my half the next day but turns out I think it does me good.
I do know one thing, it allows me to eat or ummm drink more on Saturday, that does count for something right? 🙂

I love how you have done the 5K and then got out there and run the half- amazing! This race I will run the longer distance first and it is super early and then Sunday has a later start 🙂 Can’t earn all the medals if don’t get out there, right? There will be some eating and drinking in NOLA for sure!

Another great week MB! Bacon = Coach M approved recovery food. My fave thing about golf is playing in tournaments with mostly men who don’t know I can hit the long drive. The looks on their faces = priceless.

I think I’ll have to stick to Putt Putt and leave the real golf to the hubs. I’ve never done back to back races (other than two 5ks in one day where I burped up my sausage supper in the night run) so major kudos to you! Mr. Skippy did a good job! I hope you let him eat him chips. LOL. Thanks for linking, MB!

We need a little putt putt challenge on our next blogger get together- wouldn’t that be fun! I am excited about my challenge- definitely something new for me, I like to keep Coach M hopping! and yes, my hubby is enjoying the chips and in true man fashion, every bag has been opened………

What a fun way to play golf! I haven’t played in probably 10 years – it sure would be fun! How nice your husband spoils you. Mine always spoils me bigtime on my birthday and the other holidays we don’t celebrate.

You need to get those sticks out again and try it! You know at most golf courses they have a fun club house with fun beverages when you finish 🙂 just saying!

  26. When we lived in Monterey years ago, my husband convinced me to get a set of golf clubs so I can try playing golf with him. I should have taken lessons because I was horrible to the point that it got frustrating! I haven’t touched my clubs for more than 10 years!

  27. I taught a Silver Sneakers class yesterday and had a special Valentine’s playlist with a few new cardio dances and handed out a Valentine’s treat at the end. They loved it!

  28. I’m horrible at golf! I enjoy the driving rang but I’m really not good at it. I’m better at foot sports (soccer, ski, running) and less hand-eye coordination.
Great job getting in your double runs.
