February in Florida- what to runfess?

Yes, it is February in Florida, so what could I possibly have to runfess?  It is the last Friday of the month and the runfessional is open!  I hate to be left behind so thanks for stopping by!  This is my first full week home on my FMLA sick leave and I will share, it does not suck!  I mean, I can’t even really tell you what I have done.  No big stories of room clean outs, gardening projects, closet makeovers, I got nothing!  My hubby thinks I will be bored in another week.  Are you kidding?  This is the life!

So, I am reporting live this morning from Streamsong resort.  This place is beautiful and we are out in the middle of nowhere!  An opportunity presented to tag along with the hubby on a client dinner meeting so I jumped on it.  Now the guys are headed out for golf and I get to explore.  I swear when you pull up to this place full of glass and wood I suddenly got this feeling like there could be something else going on out here. I know I probably watch too much TV but this place looks like it could have underground bunkers where they are conducting experiments on aliens or something.  It is just a feeling, I will keep you posted.

This is a big weekend in Central Florida.  Anyone who is anyone in the running world knows that this is a huge running weekend!  There is a little event in Tampa called Gasparilla and Disney is hosting the Princess weekend in Orlando.  I just happen to live right in between both cities.  I am a firm believer in the fact that everyone should run one Disney race.  It is a runner right of passage but Gasparilla, it is one of my favorites.  The packet pick up and expo starts today at 10:00 am and after I do a little exploring around this resort I am headed over.

So what does February in Florida look like?  Let’s see the high on Saturday is 80/ low 55 and on Sunday the high is 76/ low 57.  Yup, that does not suck.  I got nothing to complain about here.

Have a great weekend!  So if you could pick?  Which one would you run this weekend?  Gasparilla or Princess?

Make sure you stop by and say Hi to Marcia, she always has a good story to share!

  1. Not a Disney fan. I thought wine & dine would be fun, but then realized how early/and or late Disney races start.

I’ll tolerate the early start in UT for the beauty & the friends . . . characters don’t do it for me.

    Have a great race!

LOL, there is a resort in Virginia that does have a bunker — Google Greenbrier bunker to know what to look out for. Your FLMA time is for taking care of YOU!

I’m not a huge Disney fan, so I probably wouldn’t do the races, but I totally get the appeal around them. I would pick the Gasparilla race!

I think you really have to love Disney to love the Disney runs. Gasparilla I think appeals to more runners 🙂 Who doesn’t like pirates?

I have swooned over the Gasparilla race for SO LONG! I hope to get their someday. My parents winter in Florida, so maybe some day. Enjoy you time off – relax, refresh – cleaning will wait!

I definitely would choose Gasparilla – I prefer pirates to characters.

I had 12 weeks off last summer and I don’t know what I did with my free time. It was nice to be able to run whenever.

But I was relieved to be back at work…I like human interaction and a schedule.

My race is next weekend in Fla – I want warm but not too warm, no rain, no wind, no humidity. Too much to ask for and I wish you were there too!!

Gasparilla looks awesome. I’ll definitely put it on my race list!

How long are you taking off for FMLA? I don’t work in an office and I admit I really love the freedom.

Gasparilla is awesome! Tons of runners and lots of celebration! I would enjoy the freedom too and I haven’t decided, I have 6 weeks of sick time available so I am in no hurry!

I always thought I’d run Disney Princess when my girls were younger (heck they were both Tinkerbell for Halloween for 3 consecutive years each). Alas I never did and their interest in Disney waned. I’m much more a Gasparilla girl myself…..arghhh! That resort looks amazing. Underground bunkers and all. 😉

Gasparilla for sure …not a Disney fan myself. I never understood people who actually went to Disney World for their honeymoon.

Anyway, glad you are enjoying your time off. Don’t feel guilty one bit, you need this! I’ll admit that I have been really enjoying being unemployed since the move. I can workout any time of day that suits me, read and watch TV too. I keep telling myself that I’ll look for a part-time job when I get bored with this …hasn’t happened yet! 🙂

  16. Running a Disney race would be a lot of fun! I’d love to do that with a bunch of girl friends.

I’m glad you’re getting some much-deserved downtime. But stay away from the clandestine experiments. That never ends well!

Since I’ve already done Princess, I would be down for Gasparilla. It seems more my style. 🙂 Have so much fun and good luck!

It’s been unseasonably warm on the east coast this winter. We’ve had a few days of 75-80 days with cooler 55-60 evenings in the last week and it’s been amazing! Fingers crossed it sticks around.

  22. It’s funny that you mention everyone should run at least one Disney race because just this morning when I saw pics on FB that my friends had posted from the Disney Princess race, it dawned on me that I’d never even considered a Disney race. I’m pretty sure they’re not for me, but never say never until you’ve tried it, right?

I hope you had a great second day at the Gasparilla races!

  23. I too would never get bored staying at home. A lot of my teacher friends say they get bored over the summer, NOT ME!

I miss going on business trips with my husband. They always stay at the nicest places!

You are so lucky to live right between two major race weekends. Which Disney race will you do next?

  24. Toni says:

I definitely want to run Gasparilla next year! I plan to do all four races.
